Job Description:
Job Description UPMC Hamot Women's Hospital is looking to hire a
Part-Time Professional Staff Nurse to the Pediatrics Unit! This
position is part-time, rotating 50/50 days and nights. 1 year of
Med/Surg RN experience highly preferred. Title and starting pay
rate of this position may vary based on years of experience.
Responsibilities Professional Practice and Collaboration Develops
and maintains effective working relationships with patients,
families, colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare
professionals. Demonstrates accountability, professionalism,
enthusiasm, and commitment to high-quality patient care. Promotes a
culture of respect by recognizing cultural differences and holding
self and peers accountable for healthy professional relationships.
Communicates identified safety hazards to peers and leadership and
models safe work practices. Patient Care and Clinical Excellence
Applies the nursing process within the framework of
Relationship-Based Care to create a healing, patient-centered
environment. Develops and implements individualized plans of care
in partnership with patients and families, addressing clinical,
psychosocial, safety, and spiritual needs. Demonstrates strong
critical-thinking and clinical judgment skills in the assessment
and management of patient care. Communicates effectively with the
interdisciplinary team, clearly articulating patient conditions,
care plans, and recommendations. Maintains accurate, thorough, and
timely documentation to support continuity of care. Aligns practice
with national professional standards, health system initiatives,
and unit-based goals to improve patient safety, quality, and
satisfaction. Education and Development Demonstrates knowledge of
adult learning principles (and pediatric principles when
applicable) and applies them in patient, family, and staff
education. Provides clear, comprehensive education to patients and

an environment of open communication, inquiry, and continuous

professional development to enhance nursing practice and patient
outcomes. Actively participates in unit-based shared governance,

partner on the care team, offering assistance and collaboration as

participates in unit- or department-specific quality improvement

evidence-based practice into clinical care by identifying relevant
research, contributing to multidisciplinary discussions, and
influencing plans of care. Qualifications and Experience
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills required to provide
age-appropriate care and effectively interact with patients served
by the assigned unit. Demonstrates understanding of growth and
development principles across the lifespan and the ability to
assess patient data to identify age-specific needs. Interprets
clinical information accurately to provide care in accordance with
departmental policies and procedures. Zero to two (0–2) years of
nursing experience required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
preferred. Demonstrates strong clinical judgment, critical
thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills related to patient
care. Ability to lead and support others in the application of the
nursing process. Ability to work productively in a complex
healthcare environment while managing multiple and changing
priorities and specialized equipment. Establishes and maintains
positive, professional, and caring relationships with executives,
managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and
support staff, other departments, and patients and families.
Physical Requirements Mobility, visual acuity, and manual dexterity
required. Physical stamina to support frequent walking, standing,
lifting, and positioning of patients. Scheduling Options UPMC
offers a variety of flexible scheduling options. In addition to
traditional rotating or flexible shifts, special programs are
available for nurses who prefer primarily night or weekend shifts,
which include premium pay differentials. Employees hired into or
transitioning to these programs must have a minimum of six (6)
months of nursing experience and may be required to complete
orientation during regular business hours. Candidates interested in
these programs should notify their recruiter during the interview
process. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances Current
licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in the state
where the facility is located, or a multistate license through the
Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC). Graduate Nurses (GNs) must
successfully complete the RN licensure examination within six (6)
months of hire or within one (1) year of graduation, whichever
occurs first. Failure to do so may result in termination or
demotion at the discretion of the business unit. Temporary Practice
Permit (TPP) accepted as applicable. CPR or Basic Life Support
(BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire, in accordance
with American Heart Association (AHA) standards (didactic and
skills demonstration). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
certification required within one (1) year of hire or transfer.
UPMC-approved national certification preferred. Required clearances
with renewal: Act 33 Act 34 Act 73 (FBI Clearance) Employees
working under an out-of-state NLC license who later establish
residency in the state where the facility is located must apply for
