GENERAL DESCRIPTION STATEMENT: Operate and maintain set-up of various types of heat treat equipment to thermally condition production parts. Perform surface conditioning, blast and peen operations in slugs, preforms and finished parts.

  • Assistance may be given other operators on proper operational procedures.
  • Perform housekeeping and other job-related duties as assigned by Foreman.
  • Follow and maintain all safety procedures to insure the safest possible work environment.

    1. Set-up, load/unload, operate, monitor, and maintain various types of heat treat furnaces and ovens such as vacuum, box, pit, conveyor, elevator, and fluidized bed to perform a variety of heat treat processes such as harden, temper, stress relieve, anneal, normalize, solution, age, and stabilize. Instruments may be analog or digital (programmable 3 microprocessor) based. Readouts may be scaler (dial or chart) or digital. Must be capable to shut down all furnaces and associated equipment on an emergency basis.
    2. Must be capable of successfully completing NADCAP certification.
    3. Follow verbal and written Engineering and Quality Control instruction as contained in process procedures, metal finishing sheets, blueprints, operational sketches, tool lists, and other control documents to perform the operation in a specified and quality manner.
    4. Set-up, read, inspect, adjust, and maintain blast guns, nozzles, hoses, screen separators, dust collectors, add hoppers, pressure gages, speed indicators, amp meters, flow meters, timers, almen gages, and associated devices to specified parameter values.
    5. Logs and records in books and recorder charts must be kept as required.
    6. Some parts require heat treat codes to be roll or hand metal stamped.
    7. A high level of alertness and attentiveness must be maintained over several jobs running simultaneously on multiple pieces of equipment.
    8. Perform various tests such as vacuum leak rate, gas dew point, percentage of dissociation, harness, etc. Special loading and unloading techniques to minimize distortion and specified monitoring thermocouple attachment procedures must be adhered to.
    9. Chemical solutions must be made-up, plating tanks conditioned, anode and cathode bars cleaned, racks stripped, filters changed, and certain equipment maintenance performed.
    10. Some work assignments require special protective clothing such as face shields, aprons, and gloves. All areas require safety glasses.
    11. A high degree of attentiveness to process details and equipment is required. Deviations to required parameters and procedures as well as equipment malfunction must be reported to the supervisor.
    12. Considerable physical effort expended to oppose blast stream, load parts, various medias (50 to 100 lb. containers) and tooling. Subject to long periods of standing.
    13. Intermittently use wrenches, small tongs, and powered hand tools. Periodically transport production materials (i.e. WIP, parts, tools equipment, salvage material, scrap, and waste) to the next operation or designated location throughout the facility utilizing a powered industrial truck, powered industrial walk-behind, or pallet jack.
    14. Eye and ear protection are required.
    15. Apply shop math skills.
    16. Train other Forge Support personnel in proper procedures, methods and techniques.
    17. Must report to work on a regular and consistent basis and be able to work an entire shift.
    18. Meets compliance requirements of Pursuit Aerospace business conduct guidelines as applicable to this position.
    19. Maintain logs, inspection sheets, and various other paperwork as required by Pursuit Aerospace and its customers.
    20. Acquire and maintain necessary job knowledge and capability through on-the-job training, training programs, meetings, etc. as required for initial qualification and maintenance of necessary knowledge and skill level.
    21. Take part in audits administered by internal and external (customer) auditors as required to establish the effectiveness of training.
